A monumental work using the techniques of Kawatsura lacquerware to create a folding screen clad entirely in lacquer featuring a motif of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, symbol of the ancient Chinese capital of Xi'an. The flatness of overall design treatment recalls the spatial expression characteristic of traditional Japanese painting. The chiaroscuro design of the pagoda in black lacquer is contrasted with a vivid pink ground that conveys a modern feeling-a genuine expression of the fusion of the Japanese tradition with contemporary art.
